Good listening starts from asking the right questions such as:
(To students)
"What are you studying?" "What motivated you to study that course?" "What kind of job do you want out the degree?"
(To your supervisor at work)
"How are you?" "Have you been busy?" "What are you busy with?" "How long have you been in the industry?" "Can you tell me about your previous work?"
(To a professional)
"How long have you been in the industry?" "Where have you worked before?" "What did you study at university?" "Do you like what you do?" "What do you enjoy the most?" "Anything new in the industry?"
These questions will make you look as though you're interested in the person you're speaking to and make them feel important. This will also make you a good listener! The people others most remember are those who listen, not the people who kept talking about themselves.
