Tips from Sae
With any kinds of engineering, being able to present and justify your argument is the key to be a successful engineering student. Writing, research, and referencing skills are needed to back up your argument. While you can acquire these skills from the library workshop, I'd like to talk about engineering-specific tips.
When writing, be concise and simple. Comparing to other disciplines, engineers dislike sentences that are irrelevant to the topic and they dislike reading unnecessarily long assignments. I have had units that take marks away if the assignment is too long.
Another tip is be aware of the plagiarism. Many students swap assignments for checking but this is plagiarism, and even if you "borrow" your classmate's idea that's also plagiarism. We have had so many students that failed in their 3rd or 4th year because of these issues. Do not share your assignments and do not copy anyone else's.
