The answer is to avoid any arguments.
If you participate in the argument, the person on the other side will see you as their opponent. It's natural for people to attack back when attacked. No matter how well you know the other person or trust each other, no one likes to be told what to do. If you end up in between other people's argument, ignore it, do not get into it. Do not think that you can help them because someone will see you as an opponent no matter what you do. If someone is provoking you, no matter what the person says or does to you, show them that it doesn't bother you at all. If you disagree with something, do not ever say you disagree, ask people questions which may lead them to the problem that you see, get them to think and come up with the solution that you think may better.
